This project examines the concentration of female ex-prisoners in Chicago neighborhoods and compares this concentration to social-economic and health outcomes in these neighborhoods. The following maps indicate that neighborhoods with the highest concentrations of female ex-prisoners also are more likely to be those with the highest concentrations of grandparent families.

This map displays the differences (residuals) between a computer simulation of entrepreneurial activity (based on a theoretical economic model) and actual entrepreneurial activity for 1996 in 4 Provinces of Thailand, based at the level of rural villages (survey data). GIS was used to depict the spatial patterns of simulation over and under prediction, and areas where over-prediction occurred are colored in reds and oranges, while areas of under-prediction are colored in dark greens. The polygonal shapes are Thiessen polygons representing individual Thai villages, and were used instead of village center points to aid in visual assessment. The computer simulation was based on a theoretical economic model predicting the movement of subsistence farmers into non-subsistence entrepreneurial activities, and was simulated out from base-year 1986 data over a ten-year period to predict 1996 using initial wealth and financial credit access data.
